Limassol is the second-largest city of Cyprus and the largest seaside resort.
The city is located on the island's southern coast, on Akrotiri bay,
and is built between two ancient cities, the cities of Amathus
and Kourion . The town's holiday atmosphere, with the wide promenade
and traditional shopping streets along with the cheerfulness and lively character
of its people make Limassol an unforgettable experience to its visitors.
Limassol offers the best nightlife on the island and host’s the Island’s best-known
festivals such as the annual Wine Festival in September, the ten
day pre-Lenten Carnival, the Limassol Festival in summer and the ancient Drama
Festival at Kourion. The Limassol Carnival festival lasts for ten (10)
days, with jolly and amusing masquerading. This custom is very old, going back to
pagan rituals. The festival starts with the entrance parade of the King Carnival,
followed by a fancy-dress competition for children. During the Carnival parade in
the main streets, large crowds from all over the island gather to watch the floats
with the serenade and other masqueraded groups.
